The Executive Director of the North Shore Business Improvement Association says the closing of Reubin’s Diner earlier this month was unfortunate.
But Jeremy Heighton says that’s the nature of the restaurant business, which he notes tends to be cyclical in nature.
Speaking on NL Newsday, he says there is still plenty to be excited about on the North Shore with a number of new restaurants set to open soon.
“We actually have a brand new pizza restaurant – Red Swan Pizza – which is over besides Senor Froggy’s. The owners are from the Prairies,” he said. “We also have C-Lovers opening up in the next few weeks. The owner is actually up here from the coast. He’s put about $600,000 into renovations. As well, 5 Bean Brewbar is opening up a new location where Leon John’s was.”
Heighton says within a few days of Reubin’s closing, the owners of the Canco gas station stepped forward to take over the space, and announce plans to open a new restaurant there.
He also added that he is looking forward to the opening of Bright Eye Brewing next month.
“That will be opening somewhere in mid-October and it’s going to be a whole new sort of level of dining with sort of that brew pub kind of atmosphere that you get in some of the places downtown.”
Heighton notes that he is optimistic about the future because he says that restaurant spaces on the Kamloops North Shore do not sit empty for very long.
