The president of the United Steelworkers Local 1-417 in Kamloops says the devil is in the details for new funding for forest workers.
Marty Gibbons was asked if $69 million, announced by the province earlier this week, is enough.
“Political forces, either one way or the other, seem to be trying to grab as much attention as possible. Our question is more of a practical boots on the ground approach. We need the details, who’s included, who’s excluded? We had plants such as in Vavenby and Chasm that received severance. The last time they (government) came out with a project like this, I believe people were excluded who received severance.”
Gibbons says the union is getting inundated with questions from members, and he says they hope full details are available soon. He says the funding announcement was vague but says he is cautiously optimistic.
