The RCMP have arrested a young man from Kamloops after yet another threat made against a school in the city.
Kamloops Christian School is closed today after someone made a post on Snapchat holding two pistols with a “threatening caption.” RCMP here were alerted to the post this morning after getting information from Interpol.
“We are confident that we have the author of the threat in custody, and that there are no risks to the school staff or students at this time” said Staff Sgt. Mat van Laer. “Because of the age of the alleged offender, no more details about this particular investigation have been released.”
Added KCS Principal Sandro Cuzzetto, “At this time, best practice and the recommendation from the RCMP is that we close the school down for today, especially in light of other threats made against schools in the past while,” he wrote on facebook.
“I do apologize for the inconvenience this will create, but the safety of our students and staff is paramount.”
Speaking to NL News, Staff Sgt. Victor Steinhammer says the investigation is still ongoing.
“We conduct the investigation and we have to follow the evidence and gather the evidence up and present it to Crown who will then determine whether or not there is sufficient evidence to move forward.”
He was asked about Interpol’s involvement in this investigation.
“It was to do with the form or the media in which the threat was received,” Steinhammer said. “Yesterday’s threat was painted on the wall of the school. It’s how the threat was received. Because this was done through Snapchat is why it came through Interpol.”
Van Laer went on to say that threats to school are very demanding on police resources and are taken very seriously. He adds they also disrupt students, staff, and parents.
“Anyone caught making such threat can be facing very serious consequences” added van Laer.
This is the fourth threat against a Kamloops School this month. Sa-Hali Secondary was threatened by a snapchat last Wednesday and yesterday by some graffiti, while bomb threat was painted on Valleyview Secondary last Friday.
