The forestry crisis in the province can be blamed on many things but one local MLA is thinks the man in charge has to take some of that blame.
Speaking on the NL Morning News, Kamloops North Thompson Liberal MLA, Peter Milobar says when it comes to the forestry industry, the premier is not keeping his word. “These are the Premier’s own words. The Premier promised that there would not be impacts to the forestry sector if he was the Premier.”
“The premier promised he would solve the softwood lumber crisis immediately after getting elected. You know this isn’t me making up quotes, this is the premier in his own words and it’s time for the premier to actually live up to those words.”
He continued his critique saying “Premier Horgan has dropped the ball on the softwood file, as a result two years down the road now, we’re paying the price.”
Milobar also thinks the premier may be playing favourites “And he’s talked to the Prime Minister, it appears, about anything and every other priority that the Premier seems to have especially as it relates to the lower mainland area. But he has done precious little for any of the interior communities when it comes to this file.”
He also took aim at the Forestry Minister and the aid package announced this week. “Minister Donaldson used to actually have responsibilities when it came it came to wildfires until those were taken away earlier in the summer by the Premier.”
“It took him four months to realize that communities might be nervous about wildfire mitigation and need more works done. We don’t even know if the fifteen million for wildfire mitigation announced yesterday is actually part of existing money they’ve already announced three different times and done no work with of if it’s actually new money.”
