Logan Stankoven and Connor Zary opened up their accounts for the 2019/2020 WHL season, but the Kamloops Blazers were beaten 4-3 by the Spokane Chiefs in front of a sellout crowd at Sandman Centre.
A back-and-forth game, Stankoven gave the Blazers the first lead of the evening at 19:18 in the first period – his first career WHL goal – but the Chiefs tied it up 15 seconds later on a goal by Jake McGrew.
Connor Garbuch gave Spokane their first lead of the night at 2:30 in the second, but Sean Strange tied things up once again midway through the period.
Luke Toporowski scored with 1:04 left in the period to give the Chiefs their second lead of the night, 3-2 the score after 40 minutes of hockey.
