Veterans have not been treated well in our country, this according to a former veteran affairs critic who says his party would do more for if they come to power on October 21st.
Conservative candidate and Brantford Ontario incumbent Phil McColeman, said on the NL Morning News if the Tories form the next government, one of their first priorities is to deal with all the veterans waiting for their case to be heard. “There is forty thousand cases right now in backlog of veterans who’ve applied for benefits. Some of them have been waiting over three years now for their benefits.”
“We’re going to clear that within twenty four months. That’s been costed buy the parliamentary budget officer’s office at 25 million dollars and we will do that.”
McColeman also said a Tory government would provide more for vets including something of the four legged variety. “We’re also going to begin a program and fund service dogs for Canadian veterans who have PTSD. It’s well known that the service dog, psychiatric dogs, are incredibly, incredibly important to many lives of many veterans suffering form PTSD.”
He added a Conservative government would help making the shift to civilian life easier for vets. “Many of them have expressed that fact that they are put out into the cold, into civilian life, haven’t got a doctor, have to prove again any kind of disabilities they have related to their service in the military.”
“Right now it’s a complete disaster for many veterans who again, suffer very complex issues of anxiety and PTSD.”
