The District of Barriere is considering moving its municipal hall to a former supermarket property in the town core.
Mayor Ward Stamer says the district bought the former HY Louis Supermarket building, on Barriere Town Road, nearly a decade ago, and says they will be considering next-steps this fall.
“We’ve already looked at some preliminary drawings on what that could look like if we made that into a municipal hall. We have a municipal hall account that has approximately $300,000 dollars in it right now already. We’re getting the preliminary numbers and together so that we could make a decision somewhere in the future, possibly redevelop that building.”
Stamer says the district would also look to incorporate low-income housing in the building, with potentially 25 to 30 units.
