Mountain passes near Kamloops could see some early-season snowfall this weekend.
Environment Canada forecaster Doug Lundquist explains there is a special weather statement in place for many B.C. mountain passes, including the Coquihalla.
“It’s kind of the first snow of the season in high terrain, and it’s somewhat uncertain how much we’ll get and where. But what’s happening is there’s a cold, upper-level low coming down from Yukon and the Northwest Territories. It’ll move across southern B.C. over the next couple of days.
Lundquist says a few centimetres could accumulate on the summits on the Coquihalla, and he says people driving there should consider getting prepared for winter conditions.
The special weather statement from Environment Canada extends to Highway 1 from the Kootenay to Rogers Pass, the Okanagan Connector east of Merritt and other mountain passes.
An early shot of winter has arrived on the Coquihalla. This is near Helmer Road between #Merritt and #Kamloops, near Surrey Lake summit, and @DriveBC cams show that snow has been falling for the past several hours. No accumulation on the highway though. @RadioNLNews pic.twitter.com/pdEkdI7u65
