A four goal third period helped the Kamloops Blazers beat the Vancouver Giants 6-2 at Sandman Centre.
Orrin Centazzo had a four point night with two goals – including the game winner – and two assists, as the Blazers improved to 2-3 on the season with their second win in as many nights.
The Giants opened the scoring through Milos Roman at 5:17 of the first of the first on the powerplay, but the Blazers scored three unanswered goals – Logan Stankoven at 6:02 of the first, Josh Pillar at 1:27 of the second, and Orrin Centazzo at 0:34 of the third period.
Tristen Nielsen would cut the lead to one when he scored at 2:02 of the third, but the Blazers responded with three unanswered goals once again.
Centazzo scored his second of the night at 7:28 while on the powerplay, Zane Franklin then put the puck into the empty net at 16:41, and Montana Onyebuchi effectively sealed the win 15 seconds later at 16:56 to send 3,461 fans into a frenzy at Sandman Centre.
“I thought our second period was a rough period, I thought [Dylan] Garand kept us in it,” said Head Coach Shaun Clouston. “We mismanaged the puck a little bit. Our third period was much better. I thought we did a better job getting the puck in behind their defencemen. We turned the puck away less often. We established a forecheck. It was a much stronger period.”
Connor Zary wasn’t among the goals tonight, but he did pick up three assists.
Dylan Garand, playing his second straight game, made 33 saves to take the win, while Trent Miner turned away 20 shots he faced, while allowing five goals in the process.
The Blazers home stand continues with a game against the Seattle Thunderbirds on October 2, with a 7 p.m. puck drop. Coverage on Radio NL begins at 6:30 p.m. with the Kamloops Insurance pre-game show.
