The Premier isn’t happy about companies in the forestry sector investing internationally and one cabinet minister says there are some companies here trying to make a difference.
Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing, Selina Robinson was on the NL Morning News and said companies are trying to keep the lumber and the jobs here in BC. “We are adapting the wood, changing it so we can use it locally.”
“And so that way we are keeping people employed rather than shipping our raw logs where there’s no value added and just sending it, sending our commodity across the line.”
“This way we’re using our commodity. We’re making sure that there’s jobs here in the province that can support families.”
She gave some examples of companies in the province that are making a difference. “Structurlam is another one in Okanagan Falls. In the south Slocan there’s another company. And they’re increasing production at these mass timber plants to be used in communities around the province.”
