The Superintendent of the Kamloops-Thompson School District is hoping to see a larger Parkcrest Elementary School rebuilt in a couple of years.
Alison Sidow says it is because enrollment is growing in the Brocklehurst area.
“That is ultimately our goal. We will be working with the ministry to determine you know the right next step,” she said. “We’ll work with our community partners and our goal is to ensure that the community has exactly what it needs.”
Sidow says there is also funding available from the Ministry of Children and Family Development (MCFD) to add daycare spaces into schools, and so that’s something that SD73 officials will also be looking into.
“Wouldn’t it be wonderful to have a school that actually had daycares attached to it?” Sidow added. “Because we know that when we have really good quality sustainable care for young children, they grow into really well developed members of society. There might be some changes within Parkcrest, but its way to early to say, but it’s not too early to start dreaming.”
At the time of the fire, Parkcrest Elementary had about 350 students, and Sidow thinks four extra classrooms could go a long way.
