The Big Little Science Centre was forced to relocate after the Parkcrest School fire and now that they’re hoping an upcoming fund raiser will help cover some of the cost.
As the Centre gets ready for next months move to the old Value Village downtown, they’re discovering bills they didn’t have to pay in the past as the Centre’s Jennifer Davis explains. “Now that we’re not in a school district building we’re going to have to be charging for field trips, we’ll have to pay our own hydro.”
“So, we have to do some renovations to get that old Value Village up to what it needs to be so there’s a lot of unexpected costs with the sudden term of the move.”
The centre will take up about one third of the store. Davis likes the idea of the central location. “Hopefully in the future we can look at expansion as we grow, I think downtown will be a great location for people from all over the city being able to access us easily so that will be really nice and it is actually slightly larger than our current space.”
Despite the added bills, Davis is optimistic the cost won’t trickle down. “Our programs should still remain the same and hopefully our costs to the public don’t change at all which we really want to make sure that we stay an affordable family location, so I think our programming should be the same.”
The Fundraising Gala for the Centre is scheduled for November 2nd at the Dunes.
