Drivers on the Coquihalla can expect delays this morning after multiple vehicle incidents with the overnight snow.
Drive BC says the southbound left lane, about 5 km south of Merritt is clear after an incident involving two semis. However, while drivers are getting through at this time, they’re told to prepare for heavy delays due to weather and road conditions.
Earlier in the morning, drivers were told to expect delays of up to one hour due to multiple vehicle incidents in the area, with the suggestion to use an alternate route like Highway 1 or Highway 3, if possible.
Drive BC says there is compact snow and slush on the highway between Hope and Kamloops, which is also leading to slippery sections.
In all, about 10 cm of snow fell last night between Merritt and Kamloops, with another 5 to 10 cm possible for today. At Helmer Lake, over the last 12 hours, there was 16 cm of snow, while on the Okanagan Connector at the Pennask Summit, there was about 3 cm of snow reported in the last 12 hours.
As well, for drivers heading towards Alberta, Highway 1 has reopened near Field, after a closure this morning due to a vehicle incident.

And the #Coquihalla south of #Kamloops appears mostly bare now at Helmer Road, after 16cm of snow fell there in past 12 hours. While the Okanagan Connector is sloppy this morning despite only getting ~3cm on snow in past 12 hours. @RadioNLNews #Merritt #BCHwy5 pic.twitter.com/8QHXcFeZY8
