A recent train derailment in Ashcroft has brought up an old topic.
The derailment saw half a dozen cars leave the tracks because of a rock slide.
Fortunately those cars weren’t carrying anything toxic, at least not this time.
Speaking on the NL Morning News, Fraser-Nicola Liberal MLA, Jackie Tegart said the incident shows how urgent the need is for the Trans Mountain Pipeline expansion. “Well, we’ve certainly had the conversation around the importance of the pipeline so that we can minimize the amount of oil going down both sides of the Thompson river and the Fraser.”
“So, when we talk about environmental concerns we need think about that.”
Tegart went on to say “These kinds of incidences just bring that to the forefront once again.”
“So I’m very pleased that both railways keep me in the loop if there’s any problem and I’m very pleased that this derailment didn’t cause any environmental issue.”
