A Kamloops native and former Thompson Rivers University student has been named the university’s first ‘entrepreneur in residence’
Adam Miron, who co-founded Hexo Corporation in 2013, will be spending time on campus during the school year.
Dean of the School of Business and Economics Mike Henry says Miron will be spending some time on campus during the school year.
He will be advising on entrepreneurship curriculum, and working with faculty, working directly with students, and student entrepreneurs to help them develop their ideas to connect them to mentors across the country and around the world, and indeed to potential investors.”
Miron will not only be available for TRU students, but Henry says he will also be available for local entrepreneurs who connect to the school of business.
“It’s a big move for somebody of Adam Miron’s stature in terms of entrepreneurship to commit the kind of time he’s going to spend over the next couple of years on our campus,” Henry added.
He believes that Miron will have a lot of knowledge to share with students, both from his start ups that were successful, and those that were not.
“In terms of what they should be thinking about and how they should be developing their pitch in what their mindset should be in terms of what kind of commitment they need to make and what kind of opportunities and obstacles they are going to face along the way. So it kinds of gives them that extra step up, that extra potential for success.”
Miron stepped down from an operational role at Hexo earlier this year, but he still has a seat on the board of the directors. Six years after he co-founded the medicinal marijuana company, it is now valued at over $2 billion, and is publicly traded on both the Toronto and New York stock exchanges.
In addition, Miron has started around 20 other businesses – including the Canadian online political news website iPolitics – which was then sold to the Toronto Star.
