Sun Peaks resort had a record year for mountain biking over the summer, after spending about $350,000 improving its trails in the spring.
Marketing Director Aiden Kelly says making it more accessible for riders of all skill levels made a big difference.
“We were missing kind of that lower and intermediate level type trails and terrain. We built a bunch of stuff this year and the old adage of build and they will come was very true.”
Kelly says they got great reviews from people who came out.
“The feedback that we got from the new trails that we built with our third party partners was amazing,” he noted. “Our product on the mountain and rounding things out a little bit more and making it a bit more accessible for riders of all types and then taking that message out to the market place. It worked really, really well and we had our busiest mountain bike season by a country mile.”
He notes officials are looking forward to carrying that momentum forward into next summer,
