Environment Canada says there is an “outside chance” of treacherous conditions on mountain passes for the Thanksgiving long weekend.
Forecaster Armel Castellan says precipitation could turn into snow on overnight on Saturday, but he says at this point not much would be expected.
“I would say Sunday morning, very early in the morning, really Saturday overnight, freezing levels could drop to close to 1,000 metres, which would affect some locations,” he said. “And if the timing of the precipitation does match those lowered freezing levels, then we could see a dusting at elevation.”
Castellan says this as good time of year as any to get prepared for winter conditions on mountain highways.
He’s reminding people travelling the mountain highways this weekend should still have essentials in case of they get stuck because of winter conditions.
