There was a 33 per cent increase in voter turnout at advance polls in the Kamloops-Thompson-Cariboo riding this year compared to the federal election four years ago.
An Elections Canada spokesperson told Radio NL that there were 19,006 votes cast between Oct. 11 and Oct. 14 – that’s 4,782 more than the election in 2015.
There were increases also reported in the ridings of Mission-Matsqui-Fraser Canyon (21 per cent), Central Okanangan-Similkameen-Nicola (47 per cent), and North Okanagan-Shuswap (24 per cent) this year.
Across Canada, Elections Canada says 4.7 million people voted in advanced polls, – the most ever – a 29 per cent increase compared to the 2015 election.
Election Day is on Monday, with polls in BC open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.. Keep it locked to Radio NL for coverage of the results beginning at 6:30 p.m.
