A man and a woman have been charged after an incident on Westsyde Road where thieves crashed a stolen truck while the owner was clinging to the back.
Crystal Dorrington and Derrick Pearson both face charges of assault with a weapon, theft over $5,000 and dangerous operations of a conveyance. Both have previous criminal records, and Pearson also faces a charge for breach of probation.
The charges come after a wild ride on Wednesday, when a Kamloops man tracked down his stolen truck.
When the thieves tried to drive off, the owner clung to the back and held on for more than 20 kilometres. During that trip, the thieves hit a power pole, three other vehicles and reached speeds of more than 100 kilometres per hour.
The truck eventually crashed into a field at Jamieson Creek Ranch and caught fire. Two people inside were arrested and taken to hospital with injuries, while the owner who hung onto the back the whole time was unharmed.
