Police believe alcohol may have factored into a crash west of Williams Lake on the weekend that killed one person and injured four others.
North District RCMP Cpl. Madonna Saunderson says the fatal crash involved a single vehicle and happened on Highway 20, on Saturday just after 3:30 a.m.
Saunderson says a GMC pickup had rolled on its roof about 15 kilometres west of Williams Lake. She says a woman was found dead at the scene and four other people were taken to hospital with critical injuries.
The BC Coroners Service identified the person killed as a “female teenager,” and further details of her identity remain unclear.
Saunderson also says that alcohol may have been involved in the crash.
“Certainly in this particular case, the investigation is ongoing. And at this time they believe alcohol may have played a role, but certainly at this time that is not conclusive until they do some more investigation. Certainly in the past, in other crashes, we have seen that alcohol is still one of the leading causes of death and injury of motor vehicle crashes on our highways.”
Anyone with information is asked to contact police.
