The re-elected Conservative MP in Kamloops-Thompson-Cariboo says she is waiting to see how the Liberals and Justin Trudeau move forward.
Speaking on the NL Morning News, Cathy McLeod says she’s not sure if the Liberals will seek an official alliance with another party or if they’ll proceed in the House of Commons on a case-by-case basis like the Conservatives did.
“You know sometimes it was the Liberals, sometimes it was the NDP, but we really didn’t have a formal alliance like you see in British Columbia,” she said. “We don’t know what’s going to happen federally, and I’m sure lots of conversation are happening.”
She adds she isn’t sure if the newly elected minority government would last the full four-year term.
“They tend to go 18 months to two years, but I was part of a minority government where we went three years,” added McLeod. “Certainly, the NDP is not got a lot of money right now, and they won’t be anxious to go back to the polls for sure.”
Asked if her party would support the Liberals on the Trans Mountain expansion, McLeod said absolutely they would.
And she says she is hoping the Prime Minister will work bring the country together after fears of Western separation and the rise of the Bloc Québécois once again.
