The Centre for Seniors Information (CSI) is hoping provincial funding this year will continue on.
Health Minister Adrian Dix visited the organization earlier this month to announce $100,000 in funding, and Executive Director Brenda Prevost says that covers about 40 per cent of their annual costs.
“Adrian Dix did say, and I think everybody caught it, that hopefully – the way he expressed it – they would like to see ongoing funding, for the community centre,” she said.
The CSI has operated at a loss for the past several years – as Prevost says most funding comes from gaming grants, with other money coming from smaller grants and from renting out their space.
She notes it would make a huge difference if that funding was recurring.
“We will make every attempt to see if we can follow through with that of course, to get ongoing regular funding,” she said. “Because of the type of programs that we do it would be a huge benefit to the organization.”
Prevost also noted that there is a continued need for the CSI to expand services with a growing seniors population in Kamloops.
