The Executive Director of the Kamloops Central BIA says decisions on downtown cameras will be left up to business owners.
Carl DeSantis says six companies responded to a Request for Proposal (RFP) earlier this year, with prices ranging from $35 a month to several thousand dollars.
He says the initial idea was to go through the proposals and recommend one company to member businesses, and encourage them to support it.
“But the submissions were so diverse. It was like comparing apples to oranges to grapefruits,” DeSantis said. “What we did is we provided a template, an overview of all of the different considerations for each of the submissions – cost, the technology and let the businesses decide who they are going to support.”
Speaking on the NL Morning News, DeSantis says he’s also told the companies to reach out to downtown Kamloops businesses to introduce themselves.
“And I’ve worked with Jeremy [Heighton] on the North Shore,” he added. “I know he’s having similar challenges over there with the security camera need and he’s been provided with all of the information that we provided to the downtown business as well.”
As for timelines on when cameras could be installed, DeSantis said that it is up to the businesses.
