The Tk’emlúps te Secwepemc chief says there’s no timeline to lift limited access on Salish Road.
Rosanne Casimir was asked about the decision to limit access to locals only to stop non-residents from cutting through the reserve – which began nearly six months ago
“It’s still in place, it still has limited access. I know it definitely has reduced the traffic and the safety concerns that our membership is facing,” she said.
Casimir says she’s heard from businesses along Salish Road with some concerns about the limited access – which she says the band is working to address.
“Basically we’ve been in discussion with our lands, leasing and taxation department.”
And she was asked if there is a plan to lift the limited access.
“Not everything goes on forever, and we’ll definitely have more discussions about that and the impacts about where it’s at,”she said. “Everything takes time, money and resources, especially when we have the winter months approaching. Again, it’s all about community safety.”
The limited access was put in place shortly after construction began on West Victoria Street downtown.
