A pair of new stores are expected to open up in the old Sears location at Aberdeen Mall.
Building and Engineering Development Manager Jason Dixon says the city is working on the permits, that were both recently applied for.
“We’ve had a permit for the Fresh Street Market, that we are working on, and just last week we had an application for an Old Navy,” he said. “They’d long been rumours for us too, but we officially have an application in for those.”
Dixon expects at least one of those two permits to be approved this year.
“We haven’t processed the permits yet,” he added. “I don’t actually even know what it is off the top of my head. But until the permit is issued, I wouldn’t be able to share that.”
Also going into the old Sears location is a Marshalls store, the permit for which was issued in May. There is no word yet when either of the three stores will open in the mall.
Work at Aberdeen Mall has been ongoing in the 120,000-square foot space formerly occupied by the department store, which shut its doors in 2017.
