The mayor of Clearwater says a proposed $60-million-dollar forest tenure transfer probably does not mean a direct benefit for the North Thompson.
But Merlin Blackwell says the cutting rights transfer from Canfor to Interfor would mean builders, truck drivers, forest contractors and others would be able to go back to work quicker.
He says he also talked to Parliamentary Secretary of Forestry Ravi Kahlon about forest projects that could soon go ahead.
“What we’re finding is a little bit of blockage from Victoria, at the upper level of bureaucracy. So I advised Ravi that we needed a very large, or multiple glasses, or bureaucratic Metamucil to get things flowing in Victoria. And really we do.”
This summer, 176 direct jobs were lost when Canfor shut down its mill in Vavenby.
