Three people and four pets have been displaced from their home after a fire in a townhouse complex in the 900-block of Schubert Drive this afternoon.
Platoon Captain Mike Haines says there were no injuries, and crews were able to extinguish the fire, which was in the basement, in about 10 minutes.
“Upon arrival, there was one resident standing outside explaining there was nobody else inside.,” he told NL News. “The units adjacent were pressurized with fans to limit smoke damage to them. Once the fire was knocked down and the building was ventilated, we completed an overhaul to ensure there were no other issues.”
Haines says one person was briefly treated for smoke inhalation, but no one was taken to hospital.
“It had to do with the amount of smoke that was coming out. There were people standing outside in the smoke,” he noted. “Believed there was one person that looked like he was being treated for previous medical conditions. His mobility was an issue so we had EHS have a look at him on scene, but he remained on scene. He didn’t get transported.”
And Haines says fire investigators are still on scene, trying to determine what caused the fire.
