The Kamloops-Thompson School District has unveiled a rendering of the expansion coming to Valleyview Secondary.
A short video by CHP Architects, which can be seen below, shows a two-storey building with a glass front entrance, which was shown to the school’s staff and some students yesterday.
Board chair Kathleen Karpuk is excited by the potential the new addition presents.
“That portion of the building is going to be absolutely amazing. It’s a bright, open concept area for that entrance. It features learning steps, which will provide an area for students to be able to congregate which is something they don’t necessarily currently have in the school.”
The expansion to the school will cost $34.5 million, with the province contributing $32.7 million as announced back in April, and construction will start in the spring. The project should be finished in 2021.
Karpuk says the expansion will include a new gym and multi-purpose space as well as 20 new classrooms, as well as gender neutral washrooms and changerooms.
Amazing design for new expansion of Valleyview Secondary was unveiled for staff and students…it incorporates their feedback. Construction is set for early 2020 and completion is expected in 2022. https://t.co/ny3mLEATBK
