If you’d like to help keep impaired drivers off the road, Operation Red Nose starts their 2019 campaign this weekend and they’re still looking for volunteers.
The designated driver service has been in Kamloops for 23 years.
Coordinator Katie Klassen was on Radio NL and explained how it works and what the three member teams do. “We do have a lot of volunteer positions, so again we have the three volunteers on the road.”
“So the designated driver, so they’re driving the client’s vehicle. Escort driver, you’re driving your own vehicle. you’re the one driving around to the pick up and drop off location. And the navigator is the one taking all the paper work, donations, calling into dispatch to get the new ride.”
Klassen said they’re still looking for people to fill all positions. “We do accept volunteers through the whole campaign. Right now we’re sitting at about 150, so we’re really pushing for 100 more. Especially the middle of December to really help us drive people home.”
There’s no set price for the service, it’s all based on donations.
