Kamloopsians will go to the polls in the spring to once again vote on a new Centre for the Arts and Tourism Kamloops is hoping ‘yes’ will be the answer this time around.
CEO Beverly DeSantis was on the NL Morning News and was asked if they were behind building a new centre.
“Absolutely, we’re not sitting on any committees right now,” she said. “We’ve been asked to sit on a couple of them and they’re just getting kinda organized on what it is they want to do there but the referendum is the important thing. We’re definite advocates for that. We need it.”
DeSantis pointed out the importance buildings, like the proposed Arts Centre, plays with people deciding to move to the area.
“We not only need it for tourism, we need it for our community to attract doctors and nurses and professionals and business,” DeSantis added. “I mean this is what people look for when they come to a city.”
“They look for these sorts of amenities. We have amazing sports facilities. We have a terrific arts community but we need the infrastructure to support that and that will help our city grow and prosper and become that more sophisticated destination for people who live, work and play here.”
The referendum on whether the city should borrow $45-million for the centre is set for April 4th.
