The Kamloops Law Courts
Three men charged in an armed robbery and kidnapping in downtown Kamloops earlier this year will stand trial next fall.
A four-week trial by judge for Justin Daniels, Michael Mathieson and Robert Rennie will start on Sept. 21, 2020 in Kamloops Supreme Court. A pre-trial conference will be set at a later date.
All three are charged with robbery using a firearm and unlawful confinement. Mathieson and Daniels face additional charges of kidnapping and other firearm offenses. All three are currently remanded is custody.
The charges come after two men and a woman were robbed in Kamloops, and the woman was taken as hostage. She was found the next day in the trunk of a vehicle during a traffic stop in Falkland, and was reported to be uninjured.
Within a week of the incident, police arrested all three suspects in different cities. Mathieson was located in a home on the North Shore, Daniels was found in a condo building in Kelowna and Rennie was found in Kaleden, south of Penticton.
Police at the time said the incident was targeted and connected to the local drug trade.
