With nearly $25 million in building permit values issued in November, the city of Kamloops is poised for a third-straight record breaking year.
Building and Engineering Development Manager Jason Dixon says it was a very strong month, noting that two big permits were responsible for three-quarters of last month’s permit values
“We had two apartment projects. Between the two of them is $18.5 million in construction value and 105 units being created, so that’s pretty substantial,” he said. “Both projects are up in Sahali, one is on Robson Drive, and one is on Springhill.”
That wasn’t all, Dixon says there were permits issued for other big projects as well.
“Commercial foundation for a project over near Spirit Square, and then we had an industrial project out at the airport which was worth a little over $500,000,” he noted. “You know, all in all, it continues to be a strong year, stronger than I might have expected at the beginning of the year.”
Dixon says he’s looking forward to what December will look like, as he says he never expected to see three straight record breaking years in Kamloops.
“The potential to have $14 or $15 million of construction value in December is very achievable. It’ll just depend on what’s in the queue, what we manage to get processed,” he noted.
“We have a lot of projects on the go, some we are waiting for information back from applicants, so we’ll see.”
The current record of $285-million was set just last year. Through 11 months of this year, the city has issued about $272 million worth of permits.
