The unemployment rate in Kamloops is up from this time last year.
The Ministry of Jobs says that rate was 5.2 per cent in November, up from 4.3 per cent a year ago. That percentage is down, however, from being 5.8 per cent in October.
Speaking on the NL Morning News, Jobs Minister Bruce Ralston says the provincial economy though is holding up.
“But the economy overall is resilient, and certanly British Columbia continues to have the lowest unemployment rate of any province or territory in the country. So certainly, the global challenges are reflected in a slowing that’s reflected in those job numbers.”
There are 18,100 more jobs in the Thompson-Okanagan compared to this time last year according to the Ministry.
More than 18,000 jobs were lost across the province last month however, which represented a large chunk of the 71,000 jobs the economy shed across Canada. That monthly drop in jobs is the largest since the global economic downturn of 2008.
