Kamloops is the most generous city in Canada according to new data from GoFundMe.
The online fundraising platform crunched the data from 2019 and says per capita Kamloopsians gave the most money to causes this year. Rounding out the top five cities in Canada were four other B.C. communities – Chilliwack, Kelowna, Nanaimo, and Victoria.
Among others in Kamloops, there was a campaign that raised $25,000 for Parkcrest teachers this year, $22,000 to help Tory Jones, who was paralyzed from the waist down in a car accident near Vernon, and $11,000 to help Tara Bouvette who was seriously injured when the vehicle she was in collided with a moose near Edmonton.
It notes Tuesday is the most popular day for Canadians to start a fundraiser with 8 p.m. CST the most popular time of day to start one. When it comes to donating, Thursday was the most popular day to donate, and 9 p.m. CST the most popular time.
Hockey was mentioned in 834 fundraisers that were created in 2019, while the most prolific donor in the country gave 91 times to 78 fundraisers.
Nationally, Canada was fourth in the world on the generosity scale, with Ireland at the top, followed by the United States and Australia.
Since its launch in 2010, GoFundMe says there have been more than 120-million donations which have helped raise over $9 billion for various causes.
