Poor weather has forced Sun Peaks Resort to postpone High Five Day to April.
The twice annual tradition offers people $5 lift tickets if they make a non-perishable food donation to the Kamloops Food Bank.
Sun Peaks Director of Marketing & Communications, Christina Antoniak, says in-lieu of the money raised, the resort will donate $10,000 to the food bank.
“That was really important to us that the food bank was still a recipient of what would normally happen on that day. They’ve been a regular recipient of the funds that are raised on that day, so that was really important to us that that continued at that time of year when we know the food bank is helping serve the local community around the holiday period.”
Antoniak says Sun Peaks will also be hosting a weekend food drive at the resort from Dec. 20 to Dec. 22.
“High Five Day is all about exposing people to Sun Peaks. We just aren’t able to offer that right now due to still limited terrain available. Instead of further postponing it indefinitely, we thought that it would be a great addition to our spring time event lineup.”
She says as it stands the High Five Day that happens in the summer will go ahead as planned.
