Air ambulance crews in Kamloops can now safely transport patient at night.
BC Emergency Health Services spokesperson Shannon Miller says 25-30 patients per month are taken by the air ambulance based in Kamloops.
She says it has responded to more than 280 incidents this year, and expects that to increase based on improvements that came online yesterday.
“Summit Helicopters, who operates our dedicated air ambulance in central B.C., has installed night-vision technology in the Kamloops-based helicopter. The technology allows pilots and our paramedic crews to safely transport patients in low-light condition.”
Miller says until now, responses by air ambulance out of Kamloops have been restricted to daylight hours only.
The helicopter has a 300-kilometre radius, which means it serves as far as Hope, Williams Lake, Revelstoke and much of the Okanagan.
We’re not afraid of the dark. The addition of night vision technology has enhanced the safety & overall reach of our air ambulance helicopters, resulting in more medical transports around the clock.
