A dog owner on a property east of Kamloops has surrendered 19 huskies that were allegedly neglected and living in the cold outdoors.
The dogs surrendered included 17 husky puppies that were eight-to-10 weeks old and two adult dogs.
SPCA chief prevention and enforcement officer Marcie Moriarty tells NL News the specific location of where the dogs were living has not been made public because of safety concerns for the animals. Further specifics of their living conditions have not been made clear at this point.
She says for now, the dogs are quarantined and being treated for worms, and says they will be ready to adopt by the end of January, when they will all have been spayed or neutered and had their shots.
“It’s a true Christmas miracle that these puppies were saved from neglect and brought in from the cold. We are grateful that the RCMP and animal control officers were able to get them immediate attention,” Moriarty says in a news release.
Measures were taken to have the huskies surrendered after complaints came in to the SPCA.
