
The chief marketing officer at Sun Peaks Resort says having sufficient places for staff to live is always a challenge.
Aidan Kelly says things have “fallen into place” but he says not everyone was able to get the preferred choice of accommodation.
“September is a mad scramble because we’ve already got pre-bookings on all of our staff accommodations and it’s pretty full. All of the other folks that are coming in are snapping up all the private accommodation and there’s a real crunch. People squeeze into rooms here and this pops up there. Things just have a funny way of working themselves out.”
In January 2019, Sun Peaks Resort opened an 82-bed employee housing building worth $4 million, which Kelly says has already made a big difference especially in the busier winter months. Staff who moved in there last winter had been living in Kamloops, and the resort had been bussing those workers back-and-forth each day.
Kelly says the resort is in close contact with the municipality to find long term solutions to staff housing,
