The Salvation Army’s annual Kettle Campaign is almost wrapped up and they’re making one final push for donations.
The organization is just a few thousand dollars short of their goal of $350,000.
Captain Kelly Fifield was on NL Newsday and was asked what the Army does with the money that’s donated. “What our donations do is it allows us to function throughout the year. It allows us to not just be here at Christmas time and help support with Christmas hampers and toys and food but it allows us to bring that support year round.”
“So, we run a secondary food bank called the Storehouse Food Bank that people can come and they can access if they’re in need of food”
Captain Fifield added “We also do emergency funding. If somebody finds themselves in a situation and is just not sure what to do or where to turn. They can come in, they can sit down with us, They can have a conversation and we can assess whether we can help or whether we work with them to refer to someone else or to help fill out paper work where there’s funding available.”
Fifield pointed out the campaign funds programs that run all year long. “We also run some feeding programs. So, we do a breakfast every Tuesday morning.”
“We do a dinner every Wednesday night and we do a family fun night every other Friday night where we’re feeding families and singles and individual that are in need of that meal and they’re open for anyone to come.”
While there are no more kettles out, Fifield says you can donate online or call them at 250-554-1611 to make sure you get your 2019 tax receipt.
