A new construction-value record has been set in Kamloops for a third-straight year.
The building permit value in 2019 hit $288.2 million. The previous record was $285 million in 2018 and, before that, $224 million in 2017.
Of the value in 2019, $165.3 million was from residential construction, $109.9 million was commercial and $13 million was in the category of “other.”
Despite the record value, there were six per cent fewer building permits issued in 2019, with 1,439 compared to 1,528 in 2018.
Some of the larger permits issued last year were for the Royal Inland Hospital’s new patient care tower, for new development at Aberdeen Mall and for a number of large multi-family housing developments in Brock, the North Shore, Upper Sahali and Valleyview among other locations.
Kamloops city staff had been projecting a potential record year again for some time.
More to come.
