The owners of Big Horn Golf and Country Club in Sun Rivers are disputing a lawsuit that alleges they have not paid water and insurance bills for the past two golf seasons.
In a notice of civil claim filed in Kamloops provincial court on Dec. 17, Sun Rivers Limited Partnership – the company that has built the resort community – alleges that Big Horn owes $16,079.44 in unpaid invoices from 2018 and 2019.
SRLP alleges in its lawsuit that it was told Big Horn doesn’t have cash to pay for its water and insurance premiums, but says the golf course’s financial statements showed it had sufficient money as of Sept. 30, 2019 to pay those outstanding bills.
As of Thursday, however, Big Horn has disputed the amount owed. It says the issue is with the golf course’s maintenance building, where it is required to cover 35 per cent of operating costs, including utilities.
“Big Horn Golf charges a portion of Corix water utility costs for the community garden and waterfall water costs, in addition to the 35 per cent utility costs referred to above. These charges over 2018-2019 amount to $5,745.95 and represent the amount in dispute,” the reply to the notice of civil claim reads.
“These charges should be deducted from the total claim amount of $16,079.44, as should the interest charges of $1,710.47, reducing the total claim to $8,623.02.”
Big Horn is proposing to repay $8,623.02 over six months this year, from April to September, from revenues that come in this upcoming golf season.
Hoodoos Big Horn Golf and Country and Club bought the golf course property, located on Tk’emlúps te Secwepemc territory, from SRLP in 2017, changing the course’s name from Sun Rivers to Big Horn.
