Kamloops Fire Rescue responded to a half dozen crashes in snowy weather this morning, which included serious crashes on Highway 1 in Valleyview and Cherry Creek.
Capt. Wade Lindoff says five of those happened between Valleyview and Lafarge within Kamloops city limits.
“It was extremely slippery out there, there was some freezing rain. Made for very treacherous conditions,” Lindoff says.
“There was no serious injuries from any of those, although one had the potential to be very serious. There was a vehicle that ended up on the train track and we did have to stop train traffic. We ensured there was no one left in the vehicle and we had to move on to another incident and we called a tow truck to remove the vehicle.”
Lindoff says he didn’t know how long train traffic on the CN Rail line may have been stopped for in Valleyview.
Meanwhile, he says the most serious crash KFR was called to involved two vehicles in Cherry Creek along Highway 1 late this morning.
“There were transportable injuries to hospital from that incident. Our involvement was to go over the embankment and to assist ambulance with getting the patient out of the vehicle, and setting up a hall system to get them off the bank and onto the highway and into ambulance.”
Reports indicate the crash in Cherry Creek was a head-on, but Lindoff did not have specific details.
He asked drivers to be patient on the roads and drive to conditions to avoid further incidents.
