The city is now looking to bring in more help for administrative work at the Kamloops RCMP detachment.
City manager David Trawin says job postings are out for two data technicians and for a crime analyst.
“So this year, there are three municipal positions being advertised and will be hired in order to support the RCMP. And there may actually be a couple of other ones regarding the Jordan decision which requires paperwork to be done in an earlier time frame. A couple more may be added to the supplemental budget, we’re just working on that right now.”
Trawin says the three positions with job advertisements out right now will be added to the budget for the 2020-21 fiscal year, which was approved by council three years ago new funding came online for 10 RCMP officers.
Kamloops RCMP Supt. Syd Lecky recently said that the detachment is dealing with a “logjam” of administrative work in investigations, which is do to with requirements that stem from the Jordan decision in BC Supreme Court in 2016.
