Environment Canada says about 7 cm of snow fell at the airport overnight and then as you get higher there are reports of more than 20 cm along the Coquihalla Summit.
That system is going to continue to bring snow into tomorrow. Meteorologist Doug Lundquist says the temperature is rising enough to get a short reprieve today. “Maybe this afternoon there will be a short break there where we’ll turnover to showers of flurries, but then we’re having snow starting again overnight. So, that break is in the ladder half of the day and the Coquihalla… I see the temperature hanging right around zero, so this may be the one break that we have and it’s not a long one.”
“It’s difficult in the valley because it’s so heavy and wet but it could be another 5 cm in some parts down in the valley bottom. I’d say over the high terrain and the passes another 10 to 15 with a bit of a break. So that snow will come mainly tonight and into tomorrow in the passes.”
Lundquist says after this system passes sometime tomorrow evening, it won’t be long before the next one arrives as more snow is expected to fall starting Thursday night. “Certainly isn’t a pleasant situation for the next couple days. So if we can kind of get things under control today and tonight then hopefully we go into that little weak arctic front that’s coming for us Wednesday night into Thursday in the right place. And that cold air is going to set up for another storm that we’re going to have on Thursday night into Saturday.”
