RCMP are urging people to not leave their garage door openers in their vehicles after a 41-year-old Kamloops woman was arrested this morning with three openers in her possession.
Cpl. Jodi Shelkie says the arrest was made after a Juniper Ridge resident was woken up by his house alarm to find his overhead garage door open.
“He saw a female suspect leaving the area and contacted police with a description,” Shekie said. “Our officers found a suspect matching the description soon after, and it was found that she had two garage door openers and other household items in her possession.”
“The garage door openers were found to be from nearby homes and then after consulting with these homeowners, the household items that the suspect had on her were from inside the residences.”
Shelkie says the woman allegedly stole tge garage door openers from vehicles and then broke into houses while the occupants slept.
“And so we just want to at this time remind people that in addition to removing all valuables from their vehicles, it’s really important to take your overhead garage door opener out as well,” noted Shelkie.
The woman is in police custody pending a court appearance.
