More than two dozen B.C. communities will be getting level-two electric vehicle charging stations installed, including Ashcroft and Logan Lake.
Ashcroft mayor Barbara Roden has been advocating for EV chargers for some time, saying the village has the infrastructure in place to set up two level-two charging stations as well as a fast-charging station – which the village is still pursuing.
“We’re not that far off the highway. And when we built our water treatment plant, which has phase-three power which you need for the fast-charging station, we put the wiring in place. And we have a parking area right above it which is 20 feet from the building that’s village property,” Roden says.
“We’ve got the parking, the wiring, the electricity is all ready to go in. You’re a two-minute walk from downtown Ashcroft, so you can go plug in, walk downtown, spend 25 minutes or half an hour and go have some lunch, do some shopping, go to the museum.”
The non-profit Northern Development Initiative Trust announced on Wednesday that $192,000 in provincial funding will be used to build 47 electric vehicle chargers across B.C.
Quesnel and 100 Mile House will each also be getting two EV charging stations, and the others will be built in various municipal and Indigenous communities in northern B.C.
