Logan Lake is still looking for details about how much grant money it will be getting to build electric vehicle charging stations.
CAO Randy Lambright says the District has $10,000 set aside for a project, and is trying to clarify what kind of grant funding is coming in, after the Northern Development Initiative Trust announced this week that 26 B.C. communities will have access to $192,000 in funding for EV chargers.
He says a location for those charging stations hasn’t yet been determined.
“It would ultimately have to be ratified by council, but you certainly could look at the town centre where we have our shopping core, that gets a fair amount of activity. As well as, nearby, our recreation centre. We’ve got a fairly large parking lot right beside the truck and shovel that it potentially could be located there.”
At least two EV chargers are planned to be built in Logan Lake, and Lambright says it could be up to four depending on grant funding.
He talked about the demand to bring in EV chargers.
“It’s hard to say, from our perspective, what vehicles are out there within the community that people have, I don’t know if I’ve ever done an inventory of that, certainly not in my time of being here. All I know is by having these stations, it takes that next step to getting away from relying solely on fossil fuels as an energy source for vehicular movement.”
