Every level of government is to blame for the deteriorating salmon run in the Fraser River, according the interim leader of the BC Green Party.
Adam Olson was on NL Newsday and said there needs to be a sense of urgency for human caused problems as there is for natural disasters. “When we take a look at what the response has been to the Big Bar slide, that’s the response I’d like to see when it comes to habitat restoration, habitat protection. I’ve been very encouraged by the response.”
While he was impressed with the response with the Big Bar landslide but not so much as far as the overall job that’s being done. “You know, the federal and provincial government made a pretty substantial investment, 142 million dollars last spring. There was no plan to spend that money, there was no coordinated strategy to spend that money and so I think that we’ll continue to push on those buttons in this coming spring session.”
“I think that that’s a natural disaster and so there’s an inclination, a sort of a human versus nature response to this, we can over come this and I would really like to see this sense of urgency on the human caused aspects of this file.”
“Complete mismanagement” is how Olson describes the Ottawa’s handling of the situation.
