Two Kamloops Blazers are in Hamilton, Ontario getting ready for the 2020 CHL Top Prospects game, that is set for tomorrow night.
Forward Connor Zary and goalie Dylan Garand will be a part of Team White, with Garand saying he’s feeling confident heading into the game against Team Red.
“I’ve played a lot of games with Kamloops this season and quite a few last year actually surprisingly, so I think that’s helped my development a lot,” he said. “Obviously being at the highest level possible has helped my development.
Garand has a 23-9 record in 34 games this season with a 2.30 goals against average and a .920 save percentage, and two shutouts. His 23 wins are the most in the WHL. Zary meanwhile sits eighth in the WHL scoring race, with 53 points (25G, 28A) in 37 games.
“Practices are super important so I’ve been really taking advantage of that and the goalie coach we have in Kamloops, Dan DePalma, he’s been huge for my development, noted Garand. “I think all those things that I’ve applied to my game and it’s helped me so far.”
Garand and Zary are among the 14 Western Hockey League players who will be part of the top prospects game, hoping to hear their names at the draft in June.
“I kind of have been looking forward to [the top prospects game] ever since I watched it on TV last year, just hoping that I get a shot,” Garand noted. “Now that I am here, it’s super exciting and I’m ready to get things going.”
Earlier this week, Zary was ranked 12th among North American skaters in NHL Central Scouting’s midterm rankings, while Garand was seventh among North American goalies.
