Cold weather has resulted in two separate pipe bursts on campus at Thompson Rivers University.
After a water leak at the Old Main Building Thursday afternoon, TRU spokesperson Darshan Lindsay says there was a leak at the Clock Tower building today at 1 a.m.
“This obviously relates, unfortunately, to the long stretch of days that we’ve had of extremely cold weather. So we have had a situation of a frozen pipe that burst, and that obviously was the cause of the situation we had at the Old Main building (yesterday).”
Lindsay says the Clock Tower is still open and the impact is only to offices. Six classrooms at the Old Main building, meanwhile, are closed off until Tuesday, and classes in those rooms have been relocated.
Lindsay says remediation is now underway at both buildings, and couldn’t say yet what the costs will be.
A significant water main break on campus last January cost $700,000 to fix.
